International hotel operator InterContinental Hotels Group has opened its first Holiday Inn Express® hotel in St Petersburg. This is the fourth Holiday Inn Express® hotel to open in Russia this year.

IHG notes increased interest in a hotel network that offers a standard set of basic services at their pricepoint. Within the parent company IHG, this dynamic is catered for by the Holiday Inn Express® hotels, and in this respect the hotel operator is making significant strides in Russia. It is this format which best caters to the needs of businesspeople and tourists alike, as it provides the optimum price-to-quality ratio.

Aron Libinson, Vice President of IHG Operational Activities and Business Development in Russia, CIS countries and Georgia, said: ‘‘In the last 12 months we have already witnessed four new hotel openings in Russia under the Holiday Inn Express® brand, and in the near future an additional opening will take place in Moscow. The format of Holiday Inn Express® hotels is becoming more and more popular in cities which are popular amongst tourists: Saint Petersburg, as a key tourist destination, attracts guests with different prosperity levels, whose main criteria when choosing a hotel are comfort and location. Tourists choose a hotel based on its accessible price and a small number of services, because their main goal is to spend as much time as possible enjoying the atmosphere of the city.’’

Holiday Inn Express® St.Petersburg - Sadovaya is located on 62 Sadovaya street and is part of the Nikolskie Ryady project, which involves the restoration of buildings that were part of the historic former Nikolsky Market site and their further development for use as a modern, multifunctional complex. VIYM, which provides private equity services to the hospitality sector and to fast-growing small and medium-sized companies in the Russian, CIS and European Markets, acted as project consultant.

Commenting on the opening, Andrey Yakunin, one of the co-founders of VIYM, said: 'Holiday Inn Express®, is a favourite and one of the most popular brands among tourists from all over the world, is now going to be available in St Petersburg, thus satisfying the growing demand for inexpensive accommodation. We are again bringing new hotel brands to St Petersburg and Russia, demonstrating the potential of the local market.'

The hotel offers guests 244 modern rooms to choose from. That is more than the number typically offered by the Holiday Inn Express® concept, however IHG believes that its convenient location: it is within walking distance of the main tourist sites in St Petersburg, and its business-centre will make the hotel a popular choice both among tourists and business people alike.

The new hotel is the first branch of the Holiday Inn Express® brand and the sixth in the IHG Company in St Petersburg. In Russia at the moment 20 IHG hotels are open, of which four are part of the Holiday Inn Express® brand.

The price of the hotel, in accordance with the Holiday Inn Express® concept, includes all the necessary features for a comfortable stay at the hotel – a hearty breakfast, free wi-fi, comfortable beds and signature pillows. For guests travelling on business, in the Holiday Inn Express® hotel there is a spacious lobby. In addition, in the hotel there is the Express® Bar and restaurant and a conference room, which can be used for events, and on-site parking.
